General Blumenthal

I took these photos in September 2020 on an industrial wasteland in the middle of the Ruhr region, in Herne (Germany). The wasteland is south of the main railway station in Herne-Wanne-Eickel. Originally, the „General Blumenthal“ mine was located there. It was shut down several years ago. Since then, the area has become overgrown. The city council of Herne and the city administration want to build a technology centre on part of the wasteland. Some citizens do not want this. In view of global warming, they want to preserve the site as a municipal forest.
