Nasreddin Hodja is a verry popular and humorous figure in the Turkish islamic world. His historical existence is not verified. Probably he existed in Anatolia during the 13. or 14 century. Nasreddin Hodja is often riding a donkey, looking backwards. In September 2006 such a sculpture was located at the intersection of Rubens, Vandermeersch and Gallait streets in Schaerbeek (Brussels). For many years, the Sculpture Monumentale exhibition has been held in September in Square Armand Steurs, a small and very beautiful park in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (Brussels/Belgium). In 2021, the 29th of this exhibition took place. The exhibition is organised by the association „Les Amis du Square Armand Steurs“. Michel Delabaye, who is curating the exhibition, deserves much of the credit for its success.
